“STRAW HOUSES” IN ESSEX

In circus lingo, a “straw house” is a sold-out show, so-called because the ushers would spread straw for people to sit on in front of the general admissions seats in an attempt to squeeze in a few more audience members. We launched our 2011 Big Top Tour with a “straw house” in Greensboro, and just got the word this morning that all tickets for all six shows at our current location, at Champlain Valley Expo in Essex, VT, are SOLD!

Straw House, 2011 Circus Smirkus Big Top Tour

This is great news for our young performers, who deserve a packed house, but it is always hard to turn people away at the door. Our best advice for our fans is to “don’t take a chance, buy in advance!” You can do that on our website (www.smirkus.org) or at 1-877-SMIRKUS (1-877-764-7587). Tickets are still available for the July 10 & 11 shows at City Beach in Plattsburgh, a short – and beautiful – ferry ride away, across Lake Champlain!  A real summer outing! We will also be in Montpelier on August 17 & 18, and back in Greensboro for our closing shows August 20 & 21.

See you at the circus!
