Becky Brown

Becky Brown, Aerials Tent Lead & Senior Coach, All Sessions

This will be Becky‘s first year coaching with Circus Smirkus, and she could not be happier to be working with this amazing organization! When it comes to the circus world, Becky is a self-professed Jack of All Trades. She has performed on nearly every apparatus that can be hung from the ceiling, and has also trained in partner acrobatics, swinging trapeze, Russian bar, bungee dance, hand balancing, and contortion.

Becky began coaching in 2011 in her home state of Colorado, teaching aerial fabric, hoop, sling, single point trapeze, and ground acrobatics to the youth company of Frequent Flyers Productions, and moved to Chicago in 2017 to work with Aloft Circus Arts.

As a former competitive gymnast, highly-trained ballerina, and certified instructor in the Gyrokinesis Method, Becky uses her vast practical knowledge of body mechanics to help her students achieve new heights in strength and flexibility while maintaining proper form and technique.

She also holds a degree in Biology (with two-and-a-half years of pre-med education) from Amherst College, which adds an extra dimension to her understanding of the human body and how best to condition it for circus-related movement. Becky is also fluent in Russian and French, and one day hopes to conduct an in-depth study of the history of circus arts in Canada and in Russia.

When she is not circus-ing about, you can find Becky doing origami, sewing, searching for fluffy animals to pet, or simply curled up with a mug of tea and a good book.
