15 Sights You Might Discover at Smirkus Camp

Editor’s Note: This post was written by Camp Photographer & Communications Assistant Elly Craig

  1. More kids upside down than right side up—handstands, cartwheels, flips, oh my!

  2. Banjo the camp dog trotting loyally behind Collin, co-head coach and fearless fixer of all things, as they tackle mysterious projects together.

  3. The entire camp dressed to impress for our dinner dress up theme “Fancy On a Boat” —think tiaras, feather boas, and more glitter than a disco ball.

  4. Arden (admin assistant) and Charlotte (3 year old honorary staff member) playing very boisterous games involving markers, tutus worn on heads, and having “lots of work to do.”
  5. A parade of rain boots lining the dorm rafters—a quirky tribute to campers past who danced through puddles before you.

  6. The kitchen staff collecting flat rocks for their rock skipping expeditions at the lake.
  7. So. Many. Tricks. Being mastered under the Big Tops named Mama Mia and Natalie.

  8. “Snake City” which is a designated “off limits” area of camp which in fact has no snakes to our knowledge, but an official population marker (just in case).
  9. Approximately 100 lonely socks, dreaming of the day they’ll find their long-lost mate.

  10. Many a game being played on The Brown, our grassy area between the dorms.
  11. Friendship bracelets in every stage of creation—some finished, some in knots, all made with love.

  12. Both clown coaches’ elaborate camping tents (Moo’s looks like a miniature circus tent).
  13. A snowboard perched above a dorm door (maybe a decoration?)

  14. A snowboard adorning the top of a dorm room door
  15. Mariah, the activities director, dressed up like a gondolier, cheerfully serenading campers as she guides them to glamorous destinations like Lou-Ease (the bathroom) and Rufus (the dining hall).

  16. High fives, giggles, applause, and satisfied exclamations filling the air—because at Smirkus Camp, magic happens everywhere.
